One of my roles as an elected member of Meath CoCo is to sit in the Eastern and Midlands regional Authority. As part of my series of explanatory posts here is a piece about the Assembly and its role linking Europe to our region and ultimately to our area.

As always if you have any questions just let me know.

The Eastern and Midlands Regional Assembly (EMRA) plays a crucial role in coordinating and promoting sustainable development across the eastern and midlands regions of Ireland. As a statutory body, EMRA works to align regional strategies with national and European policies, ensuring a cohesive approach to economic, social, and environmental planning. In the context of Europe, EMRA acts as a vital link between the regional and European levels, facilitating collaboration and the efficient utilization of EU funds for regional development projects. Additionally, EMRA serves as a platform for sharing best practices and exchanging information with other European regions, contributing to the broader European Union objectives.

In its relationship with Meath County Council, EMRA acts as a coordinating body that fosters cooperation among local authorities within its jurisdiction. Meath County Council, as a constituent part of the EMRA, collaborates with the assembly to develop and implement regional strategies that address the specific needs and priorities of Meath. This collaboration ensures that local development aligns with the broader regional and European goals, enhancing the overall effectiveness of planning and resource allocation. Through this interconnected relationship, Meath County Council benefits from the support, expertise, and networking opportunities provided by EMRA, contributing to the sustainable growth and prosperity of both the county and the wider region.

The elected members of the Eastern and Midlands Regional Assembly (EMRA) play a vital role in representing the interests and concerns of their constituencies within the eastern and midlands regions of Ireland. These members are typically local government representatives, such as county councillors, elected to serve on the assembly. Their responsibilities include advocating for the needs of their communities, participating in regional policy discussions, and contributing to the decision-making processes of the assembly.

One of the key functions of elected members is to engage in the formulation and review of regional strategies and development plans. They work collaboratively with other assembly members to ensure that these plans reflect the diverse needs of their respective constituencies while aligning with national and European policies. Elected members also play a crucial role in fostering communication and cooperation between the regional and local levels of government.

Moreover, elected members serve as a crucial link between the regional assembly and the citizens they represent. They communicate information about regional initiatives, policies, and decisions back to their constituents, gathering feedback and addressing concerns. This ensures that the assembly remains accountable and responsive to the communities it serves.
